This engaging but intense series may look like Harry Potter in graduate school, but the series is generally darker and contains much more adult-oriented material, including curses, strong sexual content, bloody violence and drug use, so it's best left to older teens. The following items in the Parent's Guide may reveal important plot points. I've already watched the entire first season of The Magicians, and I'm glad there was only one season on Netflix until now because if there had been more I wouldn't have hesitated to go ahead even though I haven't read more than the first book yet. The Magicians' impressive special effects and creative storytelling help to compensate for a derivative premise and sometimes a slow pace.
This is not even intended not to be a reconstruction of Narnia, complete with talking animals, but once you overcome the almost plagiarism of the trap, that is where the similarities between The Magi and those books end.
